Team 2100 Award

14 November 2022

by Stephan Trueman

We have been assisting Balfour Beatty with the design of Fire Protection for the Thames Barrier, and as part of the initial phase, we have a lot of clarifications to be made and submissions for material approvals, as well as other deliverables.

The system Balfour Beatty has requested we use is BIM360 Field, which has reporting features for “Issues” raised. These were predominantly Technical Queries and Material Approval Forms. The reporting feature records how many are open/closed, with a dashboard and targets for closing out issues in good time, etc.

We have been using this for our TQ process, which has responses and comments all in one place, enabling us to track any outstanding issues or identify further information required, etc. Once completed, we close them out and they support the targets and metrics for the project in a clear and concise manner.

Balfour Beatty’s Matthew Kent nominated us and presented us this award as a result of embracing the system during the design stages, as well as utilising other deliverables such as an MIDP (Master Information Delivery Plan) and comprehensive Project Quality Plan. This has enabled Balfour Beatty to report uphill in a more streamlined manner and offer transparency on the project, as other stakeholders have access to the system and can oversee it at their leisure.

BIM Technology helped in this project, to capture 3D Pointcloud with the laser scanner, in order to extract the data needed to produce the drawings with the elevations, location of services and details needed.
