Crossrail Bond Street Station

Location: Westminster, London
Value: £12m
Main Contractor: Costain Skanska JV
Client: Crossrail Ltd
Sector: Rail
Business Units: Fire Protection

Scope of works

The redevelopment of this underground station represented a significant project completed as part of Crossrail’s capital works investment programme.

Kilnbridge were appointed to undertake the passive fire protection package for the construction of fire rated walls in a high impact board with services sealed in a fire rated compound and faceted compound seals around the curvature of the ceiling line.

Kilnbridge worked collaboratively with CSJV to develop the design brief for the fire protection package.

The final design comprised fire stopping measures to achieve a range of fire ratings from 1 to 4 hours, including fire ventilation ducts in Kemwell panels, acoustic requirements, air pressure requirements and building movements as set out in the Fire Strategy and Acoustic Specification.

Challenges / Achievements

Successful development and installation of a system that provided both a high fire resistance and crowd loading in an impact resistant material with qualities including head movement and damper interface during the life of the building.
