Norton Folgate (Formerly Blossom Street)

Location: Tower Hamlets, London
Value: £1.6m
Main Contractor: Skanska
Client: British Land
Sector: Commercial

Scope of works

The Blossom Street project involved the construction of new retail and office space within multiple listed buildings where facades and other important elements were retained on a very constricted site in the heart of London.

Kilnbridge fabricated and installed three separate structural steel frames within plots S1A, S1B and S2. Additionally, Kilnbridge erected metal decks, shear studs and secondary steelwork to the roof of S1B.

A complex cantilevered tower crane base was fabricated and installed as part of the works, and anchored to the top of a RC lift core with pre-loaded MacAlloy bars.

Kilnbridge’s scope required significant temporary works schemes for propping and back-propping of adjoining structures to safely facilitate the works. These temporary works designs were managed and carried out by the Kilnbridge in-house Engineering & Design team and installed by the Kilnbridge project delivery team.

Challenges/ Achievements

  • Off-site fabrication of all primary and secondary structural steel work
  • Intumescent coating of structural steel was completed prior to installation to provide efficiencies on site
  • Very constrained site with multiple contractor interfaces
  • Design Coordination with Precast Contractor and client team
